RATINGS:
Cast: Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin, Konkona Sen Sharma, Huma Qureshi
Directed by Kannan Iyer
So, lets talk details.
The Good:
- This movie has some really great moments that will make you jump out of your seat (That is if you watch it in a cinema or turn the volume up to the maximum level at your home theater system; if you have a home theater system)
- The movie is not predictable at all. Like seriously, you can never guess 'wtf' is this movie up to till the end(in a good way)
- All the actors have done a great job in this movie, especially Konkona Sen Sharma.
"This scene will haunt your nightmares for the next 10 years."
- The flashback story where Bobo (Emraan Hashmi) tells his childhood encounter with the 'Daayan', is just awesome. That flashback story itself without the whole ending would have made this movie amazing.
- The child actors(Vishesh Tiwari as Young Bobo and the cutie pie, Sara Arjun as Misha) have done an amazing job and trust me i hate child actors, usually they are so annoying but these two kids are just great.
- The final twist is good(could have been better)
- Awesome songs, great music!
- Good CGI. The 3d lizard and other computer effects are believable and not too fake looking. Not the best, but still better than any other Bollywood movie.
The Bad:
"What's up with this dance move..."
- I do not agree with that dance.
- The 2nd half of the movie is too slow and weirdly put together.
- The ending is just too rushed. It felt like, the makers of this movie got lazy towards the end and just wanted to finish the movie as soon as possible. So they did some random stuff and tried their best for the final 'fight scene' to make sense...but it did not satisfy the viewers. For some reason that last scene where Bobo fights the Daayan...is extremely, unbelievably FAKE and very similar to the final fight scene of Raaz 3...like 90% similar.
"Seriously, who does this?"
- This movie has many many many and many plot holes:
- There is no explanation of why was the 'new' Lisa Dutt so attracted to Bobo? She left her 4 year relationship with some really cool white dude(i'm assuming the 'cool', could be a nerd) from Canada and come to India to teach in a school and live the life of a poor teacher(because teachers are poor) and buy a really shitty/scary/haunted/poor looking room in a small flat where the elevator is out of order...for the past 25 years.
"Because she was attracted to this dance"
- The second question, why is the 'new' Lisa Dutt wearing a huge-ass ring and wearing the exact same stone the 'old' Lisa Dutt was wearing even though both of them are not related in any way.
- Why do the 'new' and 'old' Lisa Dutt have the same name?
- There are just to many questions that will make your head explode.
"WHY BOLLYWOOOD??!!!!"
- So don't stress, just relax, make yourself comfy and watch the movie. Don't think too much, it's just Bollywood trying to make sense...just 'trying', but not really.
- So anyway, the movie is pretty well done for the 1st half and after that, its just a long wait for the 'truth', a fake fight scene and a weird final scene with no explanations.
Final review:
Nope, there is nothing 'that' bad to discuss, the movie is pretty good. If you are a big fan of horror movies and you can't seem to find a decent one, this is the one you are looking for.
I'll give it a 3 out of 5. Could have gotten a 4/5 or a 5/5 if they had a proper ending and a better explanation about the characters. Other than that it's all good yo.
